🇨🇦Ontario public college faculty authorize strike mandate: union‼️

🔴 On October 18, 2024, college faculty in Ontario voted overwhelmingly to support a potential strike, sending a clear message that they won't accept unfair contract terms. The vote saw a high turnout of 76.1%, with 79% of participants approving the strike mandate if necessary.

👉Michelle Arbour, a leader in the bargaining team, emphasized that faculty are demanding a fair contract that prioritizes education quality over profit. Faculty members are frustrated with outdated workload policies and are concerned about proposed cuts to wages and job security. Many faculty members work on short-term contracts with little stability or benefits, which they believe harms students' learning experiences.

🛑Despite previous attempts to negotiate with the College Employer Council, the situation remains unresolved. Union leaders express hope that the Council will engage in constructive talks to reach a fair agreement that supports both educators and students. They stress the importance of restoring colleges to centers of excellence by investing in faculty and education.
