🚨 Big changes may be coming to Canada’s immigration system! 🚨
Immigration Minister Marc Miller is considering removing the extra points permanent residence applicants earn through a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) submitted by an employer.
Currently, a valid job offer backed by an LMIA adds 50 bonus points to an applicant’s profile, giving them a significant edge in the competitive Express Entry pool. However, concerns over fraudulent job offers and a booming black market—where fake LMIAs can cost up to $70,000—have prompted Ottawa to reconsider.
Miller emphasized the need to strike a balance: “Not prejudicing people with bona fide LMIAs, but it’s a balancing act. I think it’s safe to say I’m seriously considering it.”
This potential change could reshape the way applicants approach permanent residence and crack down on misuse of the LMIA system.
