Adelaide Strikers defeated Perth Scorchers by a commanding 30-run margin because of a smooth performance from the top three and a brilliant new-ball spell from Megan Schutt (3-19). 

These consolation victories will impact clubs in the playoff race, such as the Scorchers, even if the reigning champions are already eliminated from the tournament. 

With Smriti Mandhana (41 off 29) and Katie Mack (41 off 34) putting on a fluid 81-run opening partnership, Strikers quickly overtook the Scorchers on the fantastic batting pitch at the Karen Rolton Oval.

Using the bowlers' pace, the latter was her typical impulsive self at the crease. It gave the Strikers an early boost before Mandhana's precise stroke play took over. 

As the Scorchers attempted to pull things off, both batters fell quickly. Tahlia McGrath (18 off 14) maintained the momentum with a couple of sixes before the captain was killed in the power rush after Laura Wolvaardt (48 off 28) got off to a sluggish start.

At that moment, Wolvaardt accelerated the pace by hitting consecutive sixes off Chloe Ainsworth.

Sophie Devine (2-28), the captain of the Scorchers, had an outstanding performance and, with Alana King, made sure that the last two overs proceeded at a slow pace.

The Striker's bowling lineup finally displayed glimmers of the skill that had won them the previous two WBBL seasons despite the total being below average for this venue. 

Schutt accelerated the pace by dismissing Dayalan Hemalatha and Maddy Darke in her opening two overs. The Scorchers promoted Amy Edgar as a last resort, but Schutt's cunning was too strong for her.

Beth Mooney left the team at 17/4 after falling in the last over of the PowerPlay, making things worse for the visitors.

WBBL rookie Brooke Halliday (47 off 44) and Devine (35 off 31) attempted to salvage the innings but could never get the chase moving at the right pace. 

The relationship would eventually end, and Devine duly fell in while trying to strike out. Halliday continued to probe but to little avail.

Alana King (29* off 19) made a final appearance to ensure the loss margin wasn't as large as it might have been at the very conclusion of this competition. For the Scorchers, the net run rate can be a factor.
